Army ReserveThe Army Reserve exists to provide trained and ready Soldiers and units with the critical combat service support and combat support capabilities necessary to support nation strategy during peacetime, contingencies and war. Many of the benefits soldiers receive on active duty are also available to soldiers in the Army Reserve. While keeping your previous rank and serving as little as one weekend a month and two weeks a year, you can:
Prior Service Benefits Just like serving on active duty, the Army Reserve has programs available to help pay for continuing education. There are also cash bonuses for certain jobs, quality-of-life facilities and programs to make sure you and your family are provided for. Educational Benefits The Army offers many educational benefits that help you pursue your education now and in the future. Selected Army Reserve Montgomery GI Bill (MGIB-SR) The MGIB-SR is a way to get part of your college education paid for just by enlisting in the Army Reserve. You can earn more than $9,900 for college and more than $22,000 when you enlist for six years. Student Loan Repayment Program (SLRP) The Army's Student Loan Repayment Program allows you to pay off your federally insured college loans when you enlist. To be eligible, your loan status must not be in default. Army Tuition Assistance Let the Army pick up the tab for part of your secondary education through Tuition Assistance. Whether the tuition is for classroom instruction or Internet/correspondence classes, they will pay up to $250 per quarter hour with an annual amount of up to $4500. Concurrent Admissions Program (ConAP) ConAP is a joint program between the Army Reserve and more than 1,300 community colleges and four-year universities. The program allows you to apply for college and enlist in the Army Reserve at the same time. Earn College Credit While you serve, you'll have access to programs at accredited colleges, universities and vocational schools where classes are designed to accommodate soldiers. Financial Incentives These financial incentives are available to you just for re-enlisting with the Army Reserve. Some of these bonuses include: Prior Service Enlistment Bonus If you have prior military service of fourteen years or more, you could qualify for either a 6-year or 3-year enlistment bonus. You can receive $5,000 for 6 years or there are two, 3-year options paying $2,500 your first three years and $2,000 for a second three years. Re-enlistment Bonus If you have less than 14 years of prior military service, you can take advantage of this bonus. You could qualify for either a six-year or three-year enlistment bonus. You can receive $5,000 for six years or there are two, three-year options paying $2,500 your first three years and $2,000 for a second three years. Affiliation Bonus This bonus is available to soldiers who have completed a service term within an active component of the military or in the Active Guard Reserve (AGR) and assigned to a Troop Program Unit (TPU) with the Army Reserve. You can receive an additional $50 a month if you satisfactorily serve within that TPU. Retirement Pay As a re-enlisted soldier in the Army Reserve, attending regular monthly drills and Annual Training, you can add to your military Retirement pay point total from your prior service. Your Retirement pay is based on points earned during both active duty. Career Development Wherever you are in life, the Army has opportunities that can help you in your career. Whether it’s training that helps you with your current job or training for a new job, the Army Reserve provides many training opportunities. You may also have the ability to train in other MOSs, for example in the medical field, civil affairs, public affairs, etc. Enlistment Options Enlisting as a soldier in the Army Reserve means you can serve either three or six years. You also can receive cash bonuses up to $8,000 just for serving part-time in the Army Reserve. You’ll be able to maintain your rank and be able to take advantage of Short Tours of duty that can be less than three years. There are also opportunities for Non-Army Prior Service Soldiers. Deployment Unlike soldiers on active duty, an Army Reserve soldier's commitment is approximately one weekend a month and two weeks a year. But, they can be deployed to help serve our country when the need arises. |
